We are the Browns, and we have decided to change our plans a little bit. We have decided to “Route Down”.
root /ro͞ot/ : establish deeply and firmly.
Root Down : Settle somewhere, become established, as in We’ve put down roots here and don’t want to move away. This metaphoric expression, first recorded in 1921, likens the rooting of a plant to human settlement.
However, like many other families worldwide and in the United States, we re-evaluated our journey, the rat race, and how our kids are developing in this world. This is especially true because of the pandemic, and we believe we have found a better way. We’ve been successful in our day jobs and accomplished what we wanted to accomplish for the most part. For those that battle on and work to climb that ladder, we salute you. For us, it is time to jump! The point of this blog is to record not only the new chapter in our lives but our transition into it. We move from rooting down, to Route Down.
Route /ro͞ot,rout/: a way or course taken in getting from a starting point to a destination.
Route Down: Take a course from a starting point with no established end in mind. The journey is the destination.
We, like you, have expectations to uphold and responsibilities to keep. How do we develop our children the best we can? How do we manage our finances? Will we stay healthy? What about healthcare? What do we do with all this stuff we accumulated over the years? The house? Holy sh*t, what is in-store, and are we doing the right thing? Herein lies the spirit of “the jump.” We all trade time as a resource because we believe we have to or need to. It’s the one resource that can never be resupplied. We believe it is far more valuable than anything else we have. We want to do better at spending our time.
We look forward to recording this chapter in our lives. If this is seen by anyone, many, or none, it will be something for us to look back on as a family and ground ourselves in this decision to turn the page and jump into the next chapter and Route Down.
